In Infection: Humanity's Last Gasp, you assume the role of the Director of the New York City branch of the Department of Plague Control (DPC). You are tasked with crucial decisions regarding virus analysis, team recruitment, and equipment acquisition. Amid escalating casualties, you face challenges dealing with a diverse team of scientists, each with their quirks and a remarkably intelligent lab rodent named Marvin. The mounting pressure as mistakes intensify mirrors the race against time to develop a lifesaving vaccine before it's too late for humanity.

This strategic game offers straightforward mechanics combined in various ways to deliver gratifying and intricate gameplay where your aim is to counteract an evolving virus that threatens human existence. While unexpected occurrences from the Status Reports may hinder your progress — or occasionally offer assistance — reliance on your hired Lab Personnel and Equipment becomes vital to synthesizing randomly generated proteins for different components of the vaccine. All this while meticulously managing diminishing financial resources alongside the rising Death Toll Track. With each containment breach, the peril grows closer, underscoring the necessity to exhaust all efforts before reaching critical infection levels.
